Turoa's Mövenpick cafe 'long-term project', to start this summer

Turoa plans to build two new car parks by next winter ski season, plus prepare the way for building a new 2000-a-day cafeteria complex at the top of the Movenpick Chairlift. The two new car parks will be near the top of the mountain road increasing the parking capacity by over 200 cars. Necessary consents are currently being sought. With improved chain fitting bays and an improved shuttle service between the car parks and the base area, access to the resort will be speeded up so skiers can be on the slopes quicker, Turoa promises. The company will also be increasing the size of the equipment hire faciiity on the mountain with a new range of ski boots, soft snowboard boots and snowboards. The new cafeteria complex is a longer term project, says Turoa, and aims to cater for up to 2000 people a day. It requires infrastructures to be in place prior to any development starting, involving the provision of water and sewerage facilities plus obtaining the necessary building and resource consents. ^ Turoa has already announced its 1995 ticket prices with no changes to the 1994 prices. The early purchase price for season passes is $725 for adults or $363 for youths (16 years &

under). The passes will be valid for the current summer skiing season. Turoa said the 1994 season was a bumper one in terms of snowfall with a snow base in excess of four metres for much of the season, unheard of even during the record season of 1992. Once again it was possible to ski ^ right to the car parks (if not your car) right . through the season.
