Swimming report

Ohakune' s swimming club held their opening day on Sunday 11 December with 36 children registering for the swimming programme and eight parents volunteering to help with the coaching. A Kiwi-swim instructor's course was held at Waiouru on Saturday 17 December and this was attended by five parents. The one-day tutorial, run by Swimming Education New Zealand, aims to promote a nationally standardised learn-to-swim programme and to improve the standard of teaching swimming and water safety in New Zealand. This was a very worthwhile course with videos and practical pool work beginning with water confidence and moving on to basic stroke movement. The next club sessions will be held on 7&8 January, weather permitting.
