Seed trip

Williams and Kettle merchandisers from throughout the lower North Island descended on Canterbury last week to visit one of their major pasture seed suppliers. The two-day trip was part of a series of summer fielddays being run for growers and retailers by New Zealand Agriseeds Ltd at its Courtenay site west of Christchurch. Gavin Johnson, Williams and Kettle, Ohakune, says the visit was an opportunity for him and fellow staffers to update their product knowledge and learn more about the seed production cycle. The trip featured a full overview of the activities at New Zealand Agriseeds' research station, including plant breeding, agronomy, extension work and seed lab quality control, as well as briefings on several new forage culti vars the company is preparing for release. The visitors were also given a tourof local seed production areas.
