Although overseas volcanoes continue to erupt New Zealand's remain quietly asleep. The temperature of Crater Lake on Mount Ruapehu has started to rise slowly. Wednesday 7 December it was 22° Celsius. The deformation survey shows no significant changes in the width of the crater. Earthquakes have continued to occur. The autolocation system located 35 during November. Most events were about the Tongariro volcanoes and others occurred in the Okataina Volcanic Centre. Deformation and magnetic surveys show White Island' s crater floor is continuing to rise slowly, about 5mm per month at a site 100m from the formerly active craters. This report is takenfrom information provided by the Wairakei Research Centre - Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences Ltd. It covers the period from early November to early December.
