Waimarino Golf
A very successful Christmas cheer tournament was ruri 11 December. 1 46 golfers turned up to catch the hams, turkey, poulets etc. that were up for grabs. Some excellent golf was played. In the ladies K. Greenwood 41 , K. Hawke 40, R. Perry 39, N. Winter won hams. M. Black 38, E. Goldfinch 38, B. Thomas 37, C. Mananui 37, S. Kilsby 37 won turkeys. In the senior men A. Whooley 43, Andrew Murdie 43, R. Sisson 42, K. Cribb, T Fredrick 42 won hams. J. Laurenson 41, E. Creedy 41, D. Dick 39, M. Te Kotia 39, E. Lynghang 39, N. Black 39, N. Leitz 39, T. Spry 39 all won turkeys. Gary Creddy won the gross with an excellent 3 under par 69. Juniors D. Gray 47, T. Mitchell 45, K. Crossan 43, M. Sullivan 43, F. Bright 43, won hams. D. Blackburn 43, B.Dowsett 43, A. ONeill, L. Akapita 40, C. Dolman 40, H. Geraghty 39, A. Murdie 39 all won turkeys. The club thanks Ohakune New World for its sponsorship of the tournament. Twilight golf is still going strong on a Thursday evening. Tee off time is between 4pm and 6pm. A record 84 people turned up[ last week to contest the evening. It is a very good opportunity for people to take time to participate in golf. Many new players are showing

Junior men J. Whale 24 pts 1 st, J. Eades 23 2nd, D. Gray 22 3rd, R. Munnand R. Spry 21 4th. On 20 pts M. Hanna, R. Bransgrove, D. Schicrike 5th equal. Senior men: A. Whooley 25 pts 1st, T. Frederick jun 22 pts 2nd, N. Black and P. Goldfinch 21 pts 3rd equal, B. Drinkwater 20 pts 4th. Congratulations to all those Waimarino golfers who have done well in the ham tournaments around the district especially Andrew Whooley who, on a 1 2 handicap had a gross 74 at Waiouru on Saturday, Jaqui , Williamson who won the women's event and broke 1 00 for the first time. To the Drinkwaters Lyn and Barry who both won hams on Saturday Lyn playing golf, Barry in the raffle.
