Kohanga reo resistance
• We, (residents) in Karamu Place would like to know why the Ruapehu District Council have given the OK for a kohanga reo to be built in Karamu Place in the middle of a vacant paddock, surrounded by nine houses, majority of the occupants being shift workers at the Karioi Pulp Mill. We also have another 12 houses along Karamu Place, the majority of these too occupied by shift workers. Those who work at night will be trying to get a decent sleep before their next shift at the same time as the kohanga reo is in progress. As Karamu Place is a cul-de-sac and the entrance to the Kohanga Reo will be from the end, we are concerned it is going to cause traffic congestion to those whose driveways come off Karamu Place at the turning circle which is a very tight turning part of the road. According to council, as we are a Residential A (zone), a building of education can be built in our street. Surely to hell we are not the only Residential A (zone) in Ohakune with vacant sections. To my knowledge we are definitely the only Residential A with so many shift workers in such a short cul-de-sac. Having a Kohanga Reo built is not aproblem, its where the Ruapehu District Council have allowed such a building to go ahead without even any consideration or acknowledgement from either Council or those involved with the Kohanga Reo to the residents of Karamu Place Concerned Residents, Karamu Place
