'Wheel of Fortune' provides learning opportunity

A learning strategy has Room 4 kids from Raetihi School running their own 'Wheel of Fortune' game

show. "The game provides an interesting and fun learning opportunity whilst encour-

aging the kids to cooperate as part of a competitive team," according to teacher Bonnie Bramley.

Students are split into eight teams with questions falling into seven categories, French, Maori, vocabu-

lary, problem solving, analogies and 'out of the box'. Only the team leader answers the question and has 20 seconds to do so. The pupils kept an eye on time, recorded scores and awarded marks, five points right answer, -5 points for a wrong answer and -10 points for no answer. The allocation of marks encouraged teams to think about the question and attempt to provide an answer. Last Thursday was the final of the weekly game show. Contestants drew on knowledge of the entire third term's work. Prizes won were helicopter rides and dinner at the Powderkeg for first and second place winners. Results; Agrade; 1 prize, Emma Forster, Luke Cranston, Michelle Houtara team; 2nd prize, Jennifer Griffiths, Clay Winter, Ramaka Cawsey , Peter Billet team; B grade; 1st prize, Vicky Brown, Anton Gray team; 2nd prize, Tony Martin, Llana Waara, Kieron McDonough team.
