Those drawn to prawns are sworn to be pawns on Wairakei's lawns?
There's been a few changes at Taupo' s Prawn Park in the past six months. Business is booming and so too is the country ' s appetite for tasty prawns, so much so that the farm's in-house Bar & Grill is only just keeping up with demand. "Our increased business over the past few months has led to yet another new menu," says Marketing Manager, Nancy van der Laan, "focusing even more on prawns. We are offering prawn burgers, prawn chowder, prawn salad, prawn kebabs, prawns on the range, prawns on the ocean, prawns with dipping sauce or just au natural (we do cater for non-prawn consumers as well!!)." "All are superbly cooked by our new resident chef, Lisa Newland."
In addition to the casual BBQ atmosphere The Prawn Works Bar & Grill now offers customers live music every other Sunday. "We are trialling the concept at present," says Nancy van der Laan, "but if the response continues to be as positive as it was last Sunday, then we will have music every Sunday over the busy summer period." So if you are looking for a unique experience this summer head to Prawn Park and sample New Zealand's only home-grown prawns any way you want. For those of you who like to meet your prawns before you "eat em" hatchery tours operate on the hour from 1 1am to 4pm daily.
