Ohakune Bridge Club

The Ohakune Bridge Club held their Xmas cheer tournament at The Alpine Restaurant on Sunday 20 November. Heather Cranston teamed up with her brother-in-law Gerry Cranston to clean up both sessions and win the Summer Cup. Their 122.38 total was 1 1 points clear of 3 partnerships. Ron Frew and Brian Eades, Rita Kaiwhare and Betty Hammond, and Jim Cranston and Sarah Hamlin were within 0.4 points of

each other. Some rather interesting bidding left some partners speechless but everybody managed to recover in time to enjoy another of Franz's spectacular smorgasbords. The post-mortem playing of boards continued with the help of a few beverages. Everybody ' s skill increased to the point that Heather and Garry will have to play a lot better next time to retain the cup! Results from Wednesday 23 November. The relaxed atmosphere of Christmas seemed to be with everybody on Wednes-

day night. Winners in the East-West direction were Sarah Hamlin and George Drayton with 61%. Relegated after handicapping were Jenny and Gordon Mottram. Handicapping also reversed positions in the North-South direction. The revised results left Betty Hammond and Render V enter in first place closely followed by Heather Cranston and Ron Martin. Remember, only two weeks of bridge remain so get hold of Sarah and make the last two nights good ones.
