Ski for free ends longest season

To celebrate their longest ski season on record the management at Whakapapa ski area have decided to offer free skiing for every-

one next Monday, 5 December. From that date the ski area will be open for summer skiing until 8 January.

Record snowfalls during the winter climaxed with a four-metre snow-base in October and the field still boasts a two-metre base. Spring skiing numbers have been high on fine days but the bad weather for much of November has frustrated skiers and management alike. In addition to Summer skiing Whakapapa will continue to run their year-round sightseeing operation. Visitors to Mount Ruapehu will be able to ride

two chairlifts to a height of 2000 metres, enjoy lunch at Whakapapa' s Knoll Ridge chalet, New Zealand' s high-

est restaurant, or walk to the top of Mount Ruapehu on a guided Crater Lake walk.
