Rugby clubs join forces for youth

A Ruapehu development under 21 rugby squad has been formed in the Waimarino. The squad will be a combined Raetihi/Ohakune team coached to develop young up and coming players preparing them for senior rugby grades. The squad has the backing and support of both Raetihi and Ohakune rugby clubs with whom the squad will be affiliated. The squad has had tremendous sponsorship interest to date, said organisers. One of the main objectives of the squad is to help the youth of the community to set some goals for themselves through a team. Over 60 invitations have been posted to prospective players inviting them to a gathering to launch the venture. The meeting will be held on 1 December at 7.30pm at the Ruapehu Hotel dining room in Raetihi. The team will be coached under Marty McGrath and Rick Harding with manager Bruce Parkinson. Any support or ideas to help form a consensus would be appreciated, said organisers.
