Raetihi brigade honours long service

On Saturday 19 November the Raetihi Volunteer Fire Brigade held an honours night celebrating the following fire personal awards: Aaron Summerhays, five-year silver medal; Darren Griffin, three-year certificate; Neil McLean, 19-year bar;Ken Summerhays, 19-yearbar;JohnCompton, 13-year bar; Marty Webb, 1 1-year bar; Keith Kui, 13-year bar; Donna McGrath, seven-year bar; Alan Bowater, 41year bar. The evening was celebrated with a dinner at the Raetihi Hotel with members wives/husbands, life honorary members, including surgeon Ken Vallance, employers and Commander Pidwell of Wanganui. Introduced to the brigade this week was the Diesel Hino fire appliance replacing the Ford of 20-years' trustworthy service. The Hino, transferred from Taihape, is a much bigger appliance with a 290 Kpa Rosen Bauer pump. The appliance has on board the latest fire-fighting and rescue equipment. Also new to the brigade are three hand-held portable radios to assist in rescue, giving a coverage of three to five kilometres.
