Turoa beats bad weather to clock up a record season

Turoa Ski Resort closed its doors for the 1994 season last Sunday with a record number of people visiting the slopes for the second year in a row. Over 172,000 skiers and snowboarders took to the Slopes of Turoa, up three per cent on last year which itself was up over 20 per cent on the previous year. "The achievement was particularly rewarding this year," said marketing manager Joanna Savage. "due to huge snowfalls, which brought unusually bad weather. If we look at it on a per skiable day basis, we had a 13 per cent increase over last year". "Much of the increase can be attributed to a more buoyant economy with more money in people' s pockets to spend on leisure activities," said Miss Savage. "Also the fact that Turoa invested over $2 million in a new quad chairlift this year, opening up new terrain across all skier levels and also increasing lift capacity by over 20 per cent". With the huge amounts of snow this year, Turoa will be opening its lifts for a Summer Festive Season between December 26 and January 8. Lift prices will be $36 for adults, $ 1 8 for youths ( 1 6 & under) or $ 1 0 for a tourist trip.
