Neighbourly advice

• If Pat Gordon could see her neighbours over the road setting off fireworks, and felt that this was an irresponsible act, then why didn't she 'get to know her neighbours' by speaking to them face to face. or even over the telephone, rather than complaining about them in the newspaper. The 'senseless act'-was in fact three teenagers supervised by six responsible adults (all of whom are Pat' s immediate neighbours) who were happily 'getting to know' eaeh other. It is an unfortunate law of gravity, Pat, that what goes up must come down. My family have enjoyed the nleasure of Guv Fawkes

since moving here 14 years ago (like many other local families with young children), as part of any normal child's upbringing, and family tradition. It was apparently acceptable for all those years, but only seems now (in the light of recent accidents elsewhere) that this is part of our family calendar which will not occur in this form again. Next year, Pat, we could invite you to our Halloween Party. Or amljoking?

Grant .
