Board sorts Waimarino wish list
More than $ 1 50,000 of W aimarino council works were put into priority order by the Waimarino Community Board at their meeting last Thursday. The work was mostly projects suggested by members of the public through the submissions to the Ruapehu District annual plan process. The work, in order of priority according to the board, is: replaced George Street water ring main, Raetihi (estimatedcost$16,000); StageTwo ofthe Seddon Street, Raetihi, footpath upgrade ($17,000); Improving, for safety, the Shannon Street, Ohakune,
open drain ($22,040); fixing the drain between Miro and Goldfinch Street ($8430) ; Ohakune Cemetery extension ($6300); footpath for Moore Street, Ohakune, to the pensioner flats ($15,520); Bridge access to marae and properties east of Raetihi (no figure decided); Street lighting and regular cleaning of station toilets, Ohakune Junction (lights $2500, toilets $13,280); Provision of toilets and information service at Pipiriki (an interim figure of $20,000 was suggested here) ; Ruatiti Domain work ($2950); access ramp for the ladies toilets at Raetihi
($3500); Kerb and channel Martin Place Ohakune ($25,000). Other works considered included truck washing facilities at the Barrett & Taura depot. It was decided the council would provide professional assistance for this. The suggestion of work on pedestrian ramps for Ohakune, including a raised cross-over on Goldfinch Street in the shopping area for pedestrians was to be passed to the Mainstreet committee as part of the town design.
The call to remove two unsafe gum trees in the Rimu Street, Ohakune, reserve was heeded. The work would be carried out as reserves maintenance. Support for a play area for Pipiriki township on a piece of council land was supported, as long as the equipment was provided or funded by donation from residents. Support was also given to the submission for Pipiriki 's rubbish transfer station to be located at the present landfill site.
