Although causing major problems around the country, this year' s Guy Fawkes went off without a hitch in W aiouru. Waiouru hospital reported no injuries from fireworks and the fire appliances on hand were not needed. As in previous years all fireworks were to be let off in a designated area and fireworks in the housing area were
not permitted. Hundreds of Waiouru people headed off to the designated area to watch the colours and sounds of fireworks that have come to mark Guy Fawkes day. Waimarino Rural Health centre reported no injuries on Guy Fawkes night. Ohakune Doctor Gratien Perera said he dealt with one minor injury, a bumt ear caused by a sky-rocket.
