Restaurateur in accident
The serious-injury accident involving well-known local restaurateur and chef Jim Miller last week will not affect his three business ventures in the Waimarino according to his deputy manager Darren Johns. The Tmck Stop in Waiouru, the Top of the Club Restaurant at the Ohakune Club (with new chef Lilian Shanks) will continue to operate as usual as will the catering contract to supply the Winstone Pulp International Mill at Karioi. Mr Miller suffered serious injuries when the utility he was driving north towards Turangi on the Desert Road in the early hours of last Tuesday morning left the road, hit a cliff and rolled down a bank into a stream at about 3.30am. The vehicle ended up upside down in the stream trapping Mr Miller and it was only by remaining conscious throughout the ordeal until rescued and cut free by emergency services from Waiouru that he managed to keep his head out of the water. One of the two less seriously injured passengers who were travelling with him managed to scramble back up to the road to alert passing motorists and summon help.
