New police station for Ohakune

Ohakune may have a new police station within five years, and will be upgraded to a senior sergeant station, it was announced last week. "Ohakune is the hub of the Waimarino and will be upgraded with more staff and hopefully, funding permitting, a new building," Superintendent Alec Waugh was reported to have announced last week. He said Taihape is to be downgraded, but retain its CIB section and remain a key location because of its state highway component.
