The Kippenberger Pavilion, being built next to the Army Museum in Waiouru, is nearing completion. Tm very pleased that all the activities have come together and the building will be in use for the Christmas Holidays," said Lieutenant Donald Jones, officer in charge of construction. About 35 Army Engineers from 25 Engineer S.upport Squadron in Linton, Palmerston North, have been working on the Kippenberger Pavilion since February. Civilian contractors have also been called in for things like the security and fire alarm systems, the spririkler, heating and ventilation systems. The next major steps will be the arrival and fitting of the lift and the connection of all the wiring. For the wiring to be set up, the entire museum complex will have to be run off a generator instead of the normal electricity supply, said Lt Jones. Hard bridge The Pavilion will be connected to the existing museum by a type of Bailey bridge. The floor of this Bailey bridge is made out of wood called kwilla, thought to have come from the Solomon Islands. Lt Jones said the kwilla is so hard that a nail couldn't be hammered in to it without first diilling a hole.
