Ohakune squash
On Wednesday 12 October Waimarino Squash Club challenged Ohakune for the annual BP Trophy a good night was had by all with Ohakune holding the trophy for another year. On Friday 14 October two top squash players from the Waikato area were here for a demonstration game. Wayne Werder ranked 4th in New Zealand played an entertaining match against Daniel Murphy. All present enjoyed the lighthearted and sometimes comical play. After the match members of the club were invited to play Wayne with an 8/ 0 start. Warren Greg, Darren and John were lucky to get a point off the A Grader. Dway ne Marsh was the last to challenge and beat Wayne 10/9. On Sunday 16 October a junior tournament was held at
the club with 20 entries from Ohakune, W aimarino, T urangi and Marton. Players were put into four teams and played American scoring for 13 minutes. Prizes were kindly donated by Berry ' s Bookshop and a good day was had by all. Results were: 4th place with 533 points Rawiri McKenzie (Tur), Sarah Lind (Oh), Kirsty Litt (Oh), Isaac Newman (Oh) and Rebecca Lind (Oh); 3rd with 544 Josh Greenfield (Mar), Vanessa Irwin (Wai), Brad Hays (Oh), Robert Fraser (Oh) and Carl Deadman (Oh); 2nd with 557 Dwayne Marsh (Oh), Stephanie McKendry (Tur), Andrew Evans (Oh), Matthew Deadman (Oh) and Nolana Marsh (Oh); 1st with 629 Reece Morrissey (Oh), Amanda Sweet (Tur), Brian Hays (Oh), Quentin Sweet (Tur) and Angela Fraser (Oh).
