Dreadnought trees felled
This small but signlficant btock of douglas fir trees on the Dreadnought Road, Ohakune and behind Egmont Street and Ruapehu Road were for the axe starting last T uesday. While there has been no public opposition to the felllng, the Bulletin did receive calts noting the actlvity. The block provided a windbreak and back-drop to Egmont Street properties. One c ontractor the Bulletin spoke to said the trees hadreached full maturity, were not going to grow any more , and as they were planted for timber, now was the time to fell them. He said they had had no complaints , though people driving past the site had ignored the speed restrlctions causing them some concem.
