Teams ski for Te Heu Heu trophy

The Te Heu Heu Trophy was competed for on Saturday 8 October at Whakapapa in perfect Spring conditions. The Trophy commemorates the gifting of Tongaririo National Park to the people of New Zealand in 1887, by Te Heu Heu

Tukino IV, the paramount chief of Te Wharetoa Tribe. As such it is the most prestigious event on the Whakapapa race calendar. Koro Taiten, representing the Tu Wharetoa Tribe at the prizegiving, said his ancestors would have been pleased to see so many peo-

ple enjoying the mountains and the fun spirit in which the race was competed. In total, 10 teams competed in the Lion Ice/Fischer Skis sponsored event. The winning team consisted of Alister Simpson, Jodi Pretscherer, Anika HaywoodandMike Currie.
