Soldiers on Plunket duty

Soldiers will be going door-to-door throughout the Waiouru area collecting for the Plunket Society' s annual appeal on Thursday. Waiouru Branch president Julie Batt said money raised within the local community stays within the local community. Money is not the only thing that keeps Plunket going — people are needed too, she said. Waiouru Plunket held its AGM last week and Mrs Batt said she was disappointed with the poor attendance. "We're probably going to have to do a bit of a drive for committee members," said Mrs Batt. "There's not a lot to do. We don't need huge num-
bers." Mrs Batt said that very little work is involved for committee members. Apart from attending meetings an additional one hour's work a month would be required as part of the Plunket car
seat rental scheme. Collectors in Raetihi this year will be a group of Ruapehu College pupils, plus Plunket volunteers, while Ohakune will see Plunket folk out collecting throughout the week.
