Kids Fisheries well stocked

In the last few days the Taranaki Fish and Game Council have stocked Ohakune Lake, Raetihi Hydro Dam and Dobbs Dam (Kaitieki) with 2 and 3 year old rainbow trout from the kids fish-out ponds at Turangi. The fish are generally much larger than usual, with some weighing up to 1.5kg (3.5 pounds or more). Having been reared in a hatchery, these fish are very catchable and should provide good sport in the coming weeks, say hatchery staff. Anglers are reminded that they are reauired to hold a licence to fish for

trout. Licences are free to under 12-year-olds and are available from Waimarino Wines and Brannigan's Sports in Ohakune, and Raetihi Hardware and Wellington Cafe in Raetihi. Anglers must use a rod and running line to fish for trout (no hand-lines). In Ohakune Lake the use of a float and worm, or toby or.veltic spinners should ensure a successful day's fishing. Raetihi Hydro Dam is restricted to fly-fishing only.
