New playground for playcentre
By Michele Monaghan Thanks to the work of a few parents the Waiouru Playcentre now boasts a new playground. With the direction and help of engineer Malcolm Harrison, about four dads spent a day erecting the play equipment. "Without him we wouldn't have known where to start," said one father. Publicity Officer Ali McLauchlan said the new equipment would provide a good boost for the playcentre, especially for the slightly older age-group children. Children who "go to the Waiouru playcentre will now be able to play on a slide or swingbridge. Once they get sick of that there' s a climbing spiral, abacus and tunnel. The centre spent around $7000 on the new equipment, taking the least expensive of three quotes. The equipment is certainly not cheap and is built with safety in mind and built to last, said Mrs McLauchlan, adding that as more funds became available more equipment would be added.
