Superb spring skiing stretches season

Spring skiing conditions have never been better, claim Whakapapa's friendly department. The area reports an incredible 410 centimetre snow base which is equal to 1992 - the best year on record. Snow cover stretches well below the base facilities and there are groomed trails right down to the Top o The Bruce and even to the bottom carparks. Whakapapa management have announced they will stay open until 1 1 November, two weeks longer than normal. Meanwhile Turoa is inundated with snow. Lifts

operation was hampered on the weekend with ridiculous amounts of snow, though excellent skiing was to be had. The cold southerly airstream meant light, dry powder snow was abundant on Sunday. Staff dug out the High Noon T Bar on Saturday

but were still working on the new Quad chair and the Jumbo T Bar which were buried. Turoa' s base is in excess of four metres. Despite rumours Turoa has not announced any extension to the season and at this stage is closing on 24 October.
