Thursday 22 September, 1 0am police from Ohakune, assisted by Taihape and Turangi staff, apprehended a 23-year-old male formerly of Hamilton on fines matters. He was subsequently interviewed and charged with regard to a series of serious offences, including aggravated robbery and kidnapping in Raglan earlier this vear.
He was remanded in custody to appear in court in Hamilton. On Friday a quantity of snowboard equipment was stolen from outside Yeti's Cafe on Turoa. On Friday evening a young woman's handbag was stolen, containing a considerable amount of cash from a bar at the Ohakune Junction. Police remind people that thi s kind
of incident is not uncommon and they should be cautious. On Saturday morning at 3am, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle as he staggered across Clyde Street, Ohakune. He suffered no injuries, but was offended by the nature of comments from the driver of the vehicle, who drove away, failing to leave his name and address. It appears alcohol may have aggravated the situation on both sides. Saturday evening between 8pm and 12am, a car parkedinOldStation Road was broken into and a large quantity of clothing, bedding, camera equipment, radio and a walkman were stolen. A caravan awning stored in a canvas bag was stolen from a Karamu Street house sometime over the past week.
