The Waiouru branch of the Plunket Society recently held a baby photo competition as a fund-raiser. From the 20 entries in three categories nearly $400 was raised. President Julie Batt said she was really pleased with the support the competition received. "It's the best fundraiser we' ve had for a long time. It was really well supported." Mrs Batt said the money will not be put aside for anything specific but will definitely be put to good use. "It will go back in to the community, into Plunket services." Mrs Batt said a lot of Plunket services throughout the country need to fundraise just to cover day-to-day operation. She said Waiouru is lucky because the money from fundraising can be used to buy extras and provide extra services.
Mrs Batt said one thing Waiouru Plunket is looking at is setting up a toy library.
Sponsors for the day were the Drop Inn centre and Johnson & Johnson.
Pictured are the baby contest winners for the three categories. Elicia Brosnan
(4 mths), Cory Wilson (15 mths) and Hayley Whittaker (2 1/2 yrs).
