The Waiouru Community Health Group is planning an community health awareness day for everyone this Saturday starting at 10am. Group chairman Phil Gardyne said he sees the day as being a fun community day. There will be several interactive displays for the children and the jolly jumper castle will be in town for the day too. Along with the fun people will be able to get free health checks including cholesterol, blood pressure and vision testing, asthma awareness and dental checks to name just a few. There will be about 15 displays showing the different health services that are available in Waiouru including a rongoa, or Maori medicine, display. The Health Group is running the community health day in celebration of the year of the family and also as a way of raising its profile within the community. Mr Gardyne said there will be plenty of hands-on stuff to keep the whole family occupied.
