RCL Ruapehu District sports awards planned

IThe inaugural RCL Ruapehu District Sports Awards evening is planned for 1 1 November 1994 in Taumarunui. Chairperson of the organising committee, Graeme Cosford, said the objective of developing the sports awards is to promote high standards of excellence and fair play in sport and recreational activities within the Ruapehu District. He said the District has some very capable sports people who have achieved excellence at both national and international levels. "Their achievement should be recognised and promoted in a way so that our younger generation can look up to these local sports people as role models," he said. Ruapehu Construction Limited's commitment as principal sponsor has ensured the professional planning of the event, he said. The Council's marketing unit played a vital role in attracting this sponsorship and also with other planning details, said Mr Cosford.
