Water problems a mystery

Air in the Ohakune supply main from the reservoir to the upper Thames Street caused a low water pressure problem recently. Council officers said an air release valve in the main had failed to operate. Pressure was restored to normal on 3 September. Problems earlier saw most Ohakune consumers with low pressure and some with no water at all. That fault was traced to the treatment plan which had failed to start producing water when it should have started automatically. The plant was started manually and and mains were full after about five hours of production. Mains pressure remained lower than normal for some time, until the air lock was discovered.
