Signs of spring (and fest) in the air

Winning Waimarino coordinator Sue Allomes reports on Spring Festival plans: Signs of spring and inaugural Montana Spring Fest are definitely in the air. If y ou haven ' t already noticed check out the Ohakune and Raetihi retailers for displays of Montana products and "The Poster". This has been designed

to reflect fun, excitement, skiing, night time activities and, of course, The Carrot. Saturday 1 October is Carrot Festival Day. Already plenty of planning is under way. The day gets off the ground at midday with stalls and market day atmosphere. Tracey of Joce's Flowers plans a garden barbecue on the pavement outside her shop while Ali and her team at Jean City will be running great value in-store competitions. Other activities planned are giveaways, monster shopping specials, children' s competitions, restaurant chef s favourite carrot recipe competition and a section for the Amateur Carrot Cake Chef of the Year.

All day events and activities will make it worthwhile for everyone to be in town. Mid-afternoon is set aside for a monster Carrot Cavalcade and Parade. This will travel from the Junction to downtown Ohakune, followed by more games, events and competitions. The end of the day brings the biggest surprise. Ohakune retailers will be giving away hundreds pf dollars worth of merchandise FREE! As you shop all week purchasers' names will go into the lucky barrel. This monster prize will be drawn on Saturday 1 October and the only catch is that if your name is in the barrel you must be there to collect your

goodies. And on Saturday 24 September plan to be at the Raetihi Monster Market Day and auction. Both events are for everyone. Community groups are being asked to have stalls,

competitions or any activity that will raise money for their o wn cause. If you have not registered do so now. Call in at the Information Centre and pick up a Registration Form. Come on and make it happen.
