What's planned for the Montana Ohakune Spring Festival
9 jlhroa on mountain events • 24 September •Mumm Chamoagne Celebritv Dav • Thrills and spills with some of your favourite TV, radio • and sporting celebrities. They will be letting their hair • down in a fun obstacle race so come along and cheer them 15 on. They '11 need all the help they can get! Up for grabs is •a pair of Head skis, Geze bindings, Mumm Champagne, • ski accessories, ski passes and most importantly lessons! • 25 September •Brightstone Cider Horizontal Bungv • Decidedly different bungy jumping! Take a plunge in • the snow for some great prizes from Brightstone. 1 1am *Top of the Giant. + Mumm Champagne Ski Displ avs • Turoa ski and snowboard instructors will be strutting • their stuff with a great display of formation skiing to • music. The odd uninvited guest may try and wreak havoc • but the guys and girls are too good for that. 1 pm Top of the m Giant - a superb show and great way to spend your lunch • time. • 26 September , Peak to Powderkeg • The buzz of the year and it' s all downhill ! A ski (4km), •run (5km) and bike (12km) from the top of the Bacardi 0 Highnoon to the Powderkeg at the base of the mountain • road. Great winners and spot prizes including a Scott • Mountain Bike and a 1995 Turoa Season Pass and • Powderzone vouchers. Heaps of other prizes but you have • to be in to win. Entry fee: $30 per individual of $60 per *team of three and includes lift passes and a well eamed • BBQ and beer at the Powderkeg. • 27 September t Montana Wine Waitere' Race • One for the restaurants and bars. Support your favourite •establishment as they compete in a fun obstacle race of m their own. We know they're great with a pile of plates or • drinks but let's see how they perform with a pair of skis • attached to their feet as well. To compete you '11 need a • team of four restaurant/bar staff. 1pm 'Fun for All' Race •Course. • Montana Snow Sculpting Competition • One for the whole family to enjoy. Just roll up your • sleeves and get your creative thinking cap on. The best, • weirdest, funniest sculptures will be in to win some great • prizes. 10am midfield, near the Snowflake Cafe.
28 September Ski FM Treasure Hunt This one' s just for the kids. Find the treasure in the mountain of snow - and the prize is yours. Local Ski FM personalities will be there to give you a hand and there'll be Tip Top ice creams, Moro bars and Pepsi products for everyone. 1 1 am at the Base Area - meet at the Information Centre. Exnort Drv Bouncv Boxing New to Turoa this year, Bouricy Boxing is sure to get the crowd going. Get into the ring with our BIG gloves and have some fantastic fun on us. There'll be great prizes from Export Dry and heaps of laughs for everyone. 1 1am - 2pm Top of the Giant. 29 September Brightstone Cider Snow Rafting Rafting with a decidedly different feel! A new event specially for festival week - heaps of fun and a great spectator sport. Get a team together and paddle your way down the slopes. Starts at noon. 29 - 30 September National Firefighters Champs This annual event is a great one for the spectators. Firefighters from all over New Zealand compete in their own national ski race so come and see the calendar boys in the flesh! 30 September Export Drv Sumo in the Snow This hugely popular event from last year is back - and the Sumo suits are bigger and badder than ever. Take a break from the slopes and wrestle a mate in Sumo Kiwi style. Great prizes from Export Dry. 1 1 am-2pm Top of the Giant. 1-2 October Titleist Hole-in-One Golf That's right — it's golf in the snow — come and show us your drive and be in to win a 1995 Season Pass with the first hole-in-one. Don't worry you won't lose your balls - they' re conveniently fluro coloured. From 1 1 am-2pm Top of the High Flyer Quad. Diet Pepsi Junior Race Final Open to all juniors 14 years and under - you don't have to be affiliated to a club or association to have a go. For display • and sale - come and view wood turning and sculptures, 0 stained glass, hand crafts and pottery. • Evening: Tui Ohakune Hotel Tug of War Clyde St. *The grand finale of many weeks of competition, weather • permitting, teams will battle it out on the pavement outside • the Ohakune Hotel. Carrot window display, cooking and carrot cake competition for the amateur and professional, competitions, raffles, static displays from Waiouru Military Museum, dog handling from NZ Police, haangi, barbecues, community stalls, prizes and more prizes. Dress up, face painting plus the parade. Don't miss this.
