Praise for mountain food
Skiers have been unanimous this season in their praise of changes in eating facilities and style of food being served. Under the guidance of Food and Beverage Manager, Mark Wignall, different varieties of food are now on offer in each cafeteria on the mountain. "It means that when visitors come to the mountain they not only choose ski runs but have options about what sort of food they want to eat", says Mark. The decor and the food served in the Knoll Ridge Chalet, Happy Valley Bistro and Lorenz's Bar & Cafe at the Top O' the Bruce reflect the style of the '90's. The three are all licensed enabling skiers to relax with a drink of their choice. In Happy Valley the emphasis is on fun style family food in a cosy friendly atmosphere where the chicken burgers are arguably the best to be had in the country. Further up the mountain, the Knoll Ridge Chalet Express Kiosk specialises in char-grills, German style sausages, pizzas and Prawns on Piste - new this season from the Wairakei Prawn Farm. Ridge Cafe, on level three of Knoll Ridge Chalet, caters for up to 2,000 skiers a day, with an up market bistro providing inside seating for 350 and a further 150 seats outside. In the Kiosk Out West the emphasis is on game related products and light refreshments... where the smoked chicken/ avocado/cream cheese toasted sandwich come highly recommended. The older style Schuss Haus on Hut Flat is geared towards the younger market, serving a range of food which is fun and nutritious.
