Rose lessons

Despite threatening rain and cold temperatures a group of Ohakune Garden Club members and guests gathered at Trevor and Noeline Reynold's property last Saturday for a rose pruning demonstration. Leigh Ryland from Papa Ridge Nurseries explained the reasons for pruning and the equipment needed. She then ably tackled a variety of roses, climbers, ramblers and shrubs and answered questions. Leigh explained that you can prune your roses with a chainsaw if you must, but the important thing is that you do prune them! The session concluded with afternoon tea. The raffle was won by Kandy Barrett. It is hoped that this sort of afternoon can be repeated regularly. Next Garden Club will be on 27 September.
