Comfort for Cold Kiwi riders

By Michele Monaghan Over 3000 motorbikes of all shapes and sizes are expected to descend upon Waiouru for the 20th Cold Kiwi this weekend at Six Cross. Timed to coincide with Cold Kiwi is Waiouru' s own Mid-Winter Rage being held at 'The Piggery' in Waiouru. "It's timed to complement Cold Kiwi," said Bobby Vine, a Rage organiser. Mr Vine said Central Plateau Riders decided to time their event with Cold Kiwi to give bikers more value for money and provide an alternative venue in case the Desert Road was closed. Mr Vine said that another side of it was that people chase badges. Now they' 11 be able to get two badges in the one trip. "It's better value for riders throughout New Zealand to come to two venues instead of one," he said. This year is the second Mid-Winter Rage, with soldiers banned from attending last year. "There has been no indication of a ban this year," said Mr Vine. Co-organiser Brian Saxelby said the Mid-Winte^^ Rage will host slow bike races on the Saturda «• aimed at testing bike riding skills.
