Two Waiouru police officers were assaulted last \ week by an Ohakune Resi~~J dent. ' Constable Eddie Baker of Waiouru said the man had rolled his vehicle in Waiouru. A Taumarunui Detective was at the scene of the accident waiting for Waiouru police when the occupants of the vehicle righted the car and "did a runner". The offender was chased by the detective and W aiouru police to T angi wai where the car stopped. "We basically tried to keep him off the road as he appeared to be quite intoxicated." "While he was speaking to us he head-butted me," said Mr B aker. The offender was then arrested and taken to the Waimarino Police Station in Ohakune. On the way the offender leaned back in the back seat and kicked Constable Dale Jenkins in the head, bruising him slightly, said Mr Baker. "There wasn't an injury really, his intention was to head-butt me, but he mistimed it I think, and got me on the cheek." The man appeared in the Wanganui District Court on Friday charged with three counts of assault and was remanded in custody, said police. Mr Baker said more charges are expected to follow. Other Waiouru police news includes the recovery of a motorbike stolen from Waiouru Camp, found in Ohakune; and the recovery of a vehicle stolen from Taupo, found on the Desert Road.
