Bottomless mayor's fund?
• I read with interest that the Ruapehu Council is to assist with costs for transporting the Taumarunui High School Maori Culture group, from Taumarunui to Auckland. Apparently the group was under the impression that the Council was going to pay the transport costs but it turned out that it had not been decided upon by the council at that time. However the mayor, Garrick Workman, stated that the money could be taken from the mayoral account and used to assist the culture group. If this is correct then all cultural groups, school groups, sports groups and anyone else that wants some money towards travel expenses (or anything else for that matter) then just ask Council. If council can give money towards this culture group' s travel from the mayoral fund then it is setting a precedent and in turn must therefore give to any group that applies for it. Us ratepayers would like some for our streets, roads, kerbsides etc. It must by a very big fund this Mayoral one because it is also paying for Mayor Workman and his Deputy to go to Japan. Perhaps it is a bottomless fund - 1 wonder how much of the ratepayer's money is directed into this fund. May I respectfully request that the mayoral fund also donate a large sum of money to help towards our proposed Rest Home.
