Waimarino gets behind Rwanda appeal
Waimarino raised $4364 for the victims of Rwanda through the Red Cross - 'a fantastic effort' according to the organisation. Raetihi and Ohakune primary schools and Ruapehu College began the effort with a mufti day at the college, a coin trail at Ohakune Primary School and market stalls organised by Raetihi pupils. Local churches, Rotary and Lions got behind it too along with the whole community assisted by local businesses. Local representative Dorothy Scarrow also thanked Ruapehu mayor Garrick Workman and Peak FM for promoting the project; Ohakune co-ordinators Desna and Rodney Winchcombe, Bill Te Karu and Jean Brennan; Raetihi co-ordinators Jan and Bob Lamb, and Phillip Scarrow. "This is a fantastic effort by the entire community and a wonderful example of people big-hearted enough to set aside their own concerns and work single mindedly for the people of another country," said regional director Tineke Stokes. "I can assure the people of Waimarino tha^ every penny of the money they have donated Rwanda will go straight there. Internationa^^r Red Cross which is co-ordinating the relie^^^^^J effort in Rwanda, will see it spent in — 0 area of greatest need." 9*^— Donations can still be givei^^r^( through Dorothy Scarrow^^^^ (?MBoots & Q 06-3854095orbypo«yraVVWpolesh.re |JT| to NZ Red Cross^^ ((T from $15 g ^ Box 66^ ifb Snowboard Palmerston^^O^ hire from $20 North CHILDREHS HIRE $1Q^SI
