Local badminton players do well at championships

A large group of Ohakune junior badminton players, totalling around 20 and ranging in ages from nine to 15, travelled to Wanganui on 14 August. The juniors performed well considering this was the first competition for most of them. Results were: Under 12's - Dwayne Marsh, boys single champion; Ashantha Perera, boys single runner-up. Mark Goldfinch - singles plate winner. Dwayne and Ashantha - boys double champions; Dwayne and Emma Bates - mixed doubles champions. Under 1 4' s: Donna Cranston - girls single champion; Donna and Eileen Voon - girls double champions; Eileen and Jordan Small - mixed doubles runners-up. Under 16' s: Cathy Cranston - girls singles run-ner-up; Cathy and Katrina Marsh - girls doubles runners-up; Danial and Katrina - mixed doubles runners-up. Thanks were expressed to those parents who provided transport and support, and to the juniors for their excellent bahaviour. A win to Ohakune 3 3/2. Waimarino darts Results of a club night held on 15 August. The competition was divided into two sections, seniors playing doubles and juniors playing singles. The winners of the senior section were Arvell and Stephen Wallace with no losses. The runnersup with two losses each were the pairings of Lou Most and Cath McLean, and Rosalind Foster with Glenn Most. The winner of the junior section with no losses was Deborah Foster. The highest start of 1 18 went to Mark Pearch. Mark did not enter the competition so the money went to Craig Dolman with a start of 100. The highest score of 140 went to Arvell Wallace. The highest finish of 74 went to Stephen Wallace.
