School's playground a community effort
Orautoha School' s brand new playground equipment is the pride of the valley, made possible only after tremendous community effort and some generous grants.
Principal RobinOlds said the entire community pitched in, to some extent, to help equip the school with its impressive new facility. Among the fund-raising
projects was a stock drive in the local community (with donations of other goods in lieu of stock in some instances), raffles and stalls. Monies raised
through the sale of the school' s old play equipment also went into the fund. Other sources included grants from the Waimarino Community Sports and
Development Fund (W.C.S.D.F), and the Hillary Commission. The remainder of the bill that totalled around $6000 was met by Orautoha School's Board of Trustees. The generosity did not stop there however, with further donations of wood for framing, and bark for^ underneath the equip ment to make safer for young us-^^r ers.
