Road works concerns

Roading maintenance came under scrutiny at the August meeting of the Waimarino Community Board. Mayor Garrick Workman expressed disappointment about some aspects of maintenance work carried out recently, saying that in some cases the work was being conducted far too late in the season to be effective.

Mr Workman said he appreciated that it has been a particularly wet autumn/winter to date but said that it was foolish for staff to attempt any major upgrading work after March. As chairman of Ruapehu Construction Limited, the region's major contractor, Mr Workman said he wanted to ensure that basic contracts were being carried out well.

One recent instance of maintenance that failed to deliver was that of Ohakune' s Ruapehu Rd bridge^^^ where the bridge approaches^^^ fjL were left unfinished an^ contractors RCL were^^^^Vv^ recalled to plete the job^£\%A
