Turoa athletes bound for South Island FIS races

A team of Turoa' s top racers leaves the Waimarino this week bound for

Coronet Peak and the annual.FIS Race Series. The team includes tal-

ented Ohakune skier Daniel Richards (14). The other team members are Dakin Jurie of Wellington, Sharmayne Crawley (Levin), Geoff and Michael Small (Huntly), and David Simpson, and Natasha Wells, both of Auckland. All members have been training at Turoa with the Turoa Race Team leading up to the race series that will seeNew Zealand's top young skiers pitted against highly-ranked foreign ski racers, including top national European teams. The team leaves today (Thursday 1 1 August) and returns Monday 22 August. During this time they will race a series of three slaloms and three GS, with the remainder of the time devoted to training. Turoa' s senior FIS coach, Scott Bexton of Calgary, Canada, will act as travelling coach. The Turoa athletes will travel again to the South Island (Queenstown) on 1 01 1 September for the New Zealand Champs, with similar races and competitor entries.
