Gifted rugby player set to represent country in Australia
Talented young rugby player Sherry Hansen, is waiting for the phone call to say she will travel to Australia this month with the rest of the New Zealand womens' representative squad, after being selected as a non-travelling reserve from the weekend' s trials. Six hopefuls (including Sherry) from the Wanganui district travelled to the trials in Wellington. Rene Hiroti of Raetihi trialled for
the squad but was unsuccessful. Sherry 18, is one of the youngest players in the NZ squad of 22 and is one of four stand-bys for the Australian tour later this month, when the team will play two tests against Australia. With her name at the top of the list of reserves Sherry is excited about the possibility of representing her country and is keeping up a personal training regimen that includes training with her
local club three times a week. Part of the training for the utility player includes practising goal kicking. Already this season Sherry has notched up a creditable 161 points, including 19 tries and 33 conversions against teams in the Wanganui district. Her Raetihi team, consisting of some of the youngest players in the district, plays Wanganui Counties in the finals next Saturday.
