Kiwihost course completed

Kiwihost courses continue to prove popular in the Ruapehu region, with yet another recently completed in Ohakune. On hand to present the certificates to the participants was national founder and co-ordinator MaryAlice Arthur, a former Canadian now employed by theNationalTourism Board in Wellington. Those that successfully completed the course were Katie Bramwell, Annette Farrington, Darren Dempsey, Shane Dempsey, Kristin Hartley, Helen McKenzie, Diane Mora, and Alison Thomas. Another Kiwihost course saw the entire 1994 staff of Turoa Ski Resort - numbering around 50, taking part and successfully completing the training. Kiwihost in the Waimarino is run by the Ruapehu South Business Association, whose two year plan is to make Ohakune township a certified Kiwihost town. This involves having 60 percent of staff from each and every business take part in and complete a Kiwihost course. This dream is still some way from being realised, according to RSBA chairperson Sue Allomes. Already a number of Waiouru businesses have taken the initiative and reaped the Kiwihost advantage, including Waiouru

Army Museum and Serco. The day-long Kiwihost courses pro vide participants with the skills to offer better service to customers, as well as instilling communication skills and those for resolving conflicts. Participants are also given a certificate and Kiwihost lapel badge. The highly qualified Kiwihost tutors and trainer s from Turangi and Taupo will even conduct in-house training if staff number 10 or more. The most recent

course in Ohakune was conducted by local representative Rick Kingi. A further course, this

time for managers, is scheduled for October. Those interested can contact Sue Allomes, ph 385 8799.
