"This week with Mainstreet..."

By

SlIE

Allomes,

co-ordinator of the mainstreet project Friday 5 August was a special and significant day for some enthusiastic and keen Ohakune workers. Mr Denis Marshall, the Minister of Conservation, honoured Conservation Week by unveiling a plaque and planting a tree to celebrate the launch of the Jubilee Park Walkway project. This joint Department of Conservation (Ohakune Field Centre) community-Mainstreet project is just the beginning of an exciting development of this unique resource bordering our town verge. But more to come about this project in next week's Bulletin. And have you heard Mainstreet is working with Turoa Ski Resort, the communities of Raetihi and Ohakune to produce the first-ever Montana Ohakune Spring Ski Festival. This great event gets off the ground 24 September to

2 October with plenty of fun events, mayhem and exciting activities both on and off the mountain. Montana and the Ruapehu District Council are just two of the generous sponsors who are helping to make this event a happening one. Word has it many celebrities and a TV3 documentary team will be in town to aid the locals to make it happen. And talking about generous help from our sponsors the Ruapehu Bulletin too is getting in on the act and supporting Winning Waimarino, our Mainstreet project. This column is to be run weekly so you, the community, can be kept up to date with Mainstreet' s latest plans. Dates this week: Ruapehu South Business Association AGM, Thursday 11 August, 7.30pm in the Ruapehu Council Chambers, followed by Mainstreet Meeting. All welcome.
