OHAKUNE DISTRICT COURT

The following cases were also heard by Judge Lynton Laing of Palmerston North in the Ohakune District Court on Thursday 14 July when Police-sergeant Bob Evans of Ohakune appeared for the prosecution. Receiving charge Robert Francis Paul, 42, unemployed of Raetihi, was remanded to appear on 1 1 August on a charge of receiving from Tahi Sweet and Thomas Hemara a 44/ 40 lever-action Winchester rifle belonging to Bruce Liddle on or about 28 August last year. Curfew imposed Michael Anthony Hira Manihera, 19, unemployed

of Raetihi, was remanded to appear again on 1 1 August on a charge of breaking and entering the Raetihi Primary School tuckshop on 1 1 July with the intention of committing a crime therein. The police did not oppose bail for defendant as he "had been very co-op-erative" since his arrest but "another eight matters involving defendant were being enquired into." Manihera was ordered to observe a curfew from 7pm to 7am daily at his King Street address during the remand period. Further remand Andrea Leigh McPhillips, 22, of Ohakune, was again remanded to appear in the Ohakune District Court on 1 1 August on

three charges of false pretences involving a total of $605 for purchases made in Wanganui with cheques from a cheque book which had earlier been reported missing or stolen. Remand Dean Frank Henare, 28, unemployed of Putaruru, was again remanded for a defended hearing on 8 September when it was learnt that a prosecution witness (a fingerprint expert) was unavailable to appear in the Ohakune District Court because of a prior jury trial in Christchurch at which he would have to testify. The charges against Henare (also known as Hinana) wereof unlawfully taking and theft of a 1982 Holden Commodore valued at $14,500 on 23 May.
