Ski trip for Waiouru kids planned

By Michele Monaghan Community services officer Michelle Elgar and Waiouru drop-in centre coordinator Ali Tamepo are hard at work planning acti vities for the upcoming school holiday period. The programme will include a snow trip up Mount Ruapehu and two buses have been booked for the event. Michelle and Ali said anyone interested in the trip should contact them as soon as possible so they can work out the best deals for the ski trip. When the Bulletin called to check on progress, Michelle and Ali were looking at a package deal that would cost $25 for equipment, ski lessons and an all-day pass for the beginners' slopes. This price is for young people 16 and under. There are other package deals being looked at, but numbers have to be known in advance. Other activities planned for the holidays include an abseiling day for those 12

and over, whjch is being run by the Army Adventurous Training Centre. There will be a fun day for the younger children, with tables for drawing, making Father' s Day cards and "whatever we can come up with between now and then," said Ali. The drop-in centre will be sponsoring prizes for a baby photo competition that will be run by the Waiouru branch of the Plunket Society, with proceeds going to Plunket. "Which in turn benefits the community," said Julie Batt, branch president. The competition will run the week prior and during the school holidays. Photos will be at 'Collective Thinking' and judging will be done by the public by coin. Mrs Batt said more details would be advertised closer to the date. For those of you who want to give up smoking or lose a bit of weight, a hypnotist who boasts a 95% success rate will be visiting Waiouru on 4 August.
