First '94 ski races for Whakapapa
The first ski races of the 1994 season were staged at Whakapapa Ski Area on the weekend, with the Evian Mineral Water Giant Slalom and Evian Haensli Cup GS being held in the Te Heu Heu Valley. Outstanding performances were made by New Zealand women' s team member Annika Haywood and her brother Todd, who won both the open competitions as well as their age groups despite inclement weather, poor visibility and snow showers.
