Rest home site not settled
A site for the proposed Waimarino Resthome was one topic of discussion at the Annual General Meeting of the Waimarino Resthome Trust, held in Raetihi last Wednesday. Chairperson Bob Peck said board members have "seriously pursued the proposition that the Resthome be in proximity of the Good Health Wanganui Waimarino Health Centre." Continued contact with the CHE over this matter has occupied a considerable amount of board time, he said. An advantage of having
the two centres in close proximity may be shared aipenities, including kitchen, laundry and medical facilities. A feasibility study is yet to be undertaken. The proposed Waimarino Health Centre will be built on the site of the former Golden Acre Hotel in Seddon Street, Raetihi. Three potential sites for the Waimarino Resthome that were under consideration include the former bowling green in Duncan St, and two sections in close proximity at the far end of Seddon St.
A recent grant from T rustbank Central of $5000 has lifted the Trust' s total to over $50,000. Fund-rais-ing activities have included
catering, stalls, batons up nights, barbeques, cake stalls, sausage sizzles and mini golf. The mainstay of fund-
raising however, continues to be the rest home shop run by volunteers, with around 34 people involved on a roster system.
